VERY PROMISING START FOR THE NEW FIRST 45 "LADY COURRIER"
Very promising start for the new First 45 "Lady Courrier".
The first races took place in La Trinite Sur Mer over the weekend February 9th and 10th 2008.
Following the launching of the First 45 straight from the factory that took place at the beginning of February, "Lady Courier" was delivered from Lorient to La Trinite the day before the start of the Spring regattas.
The boat was delivered, under sunny skies, on a long beat with a 10 knots breeze. During this 30 miles delivery upwind, the yacht showed us how well balanced she is, and gave the helmsmen good sensations!
During the following 2 days, Gery Trentesaux crew (who previously was the owner of First 44.7 "Courrier du Coeur") were preparing the F45 ready to race. Philippe Briand, the F45s designer, was also there to encourage and support the team.
Here are their first feedbacks after the two races held in a 8 - 12 knots TWS :
Philippe Briand, designer :
I have been impressed by the performances and the potential, especially upwind. We started the 2 races at the pin end to the lee of the fleet and after a few minutes we were leading having crossed all the fleet. We rounded the weather mark first in both the two races.
The helm is smooth, precise, and the boats accelerates on each puff, heeling slightly to make the aft chine skimming the water surface.
The crew has to play with the longitudinal trim by moving forward in this type of light air conditions to reduce even more the wetted surface.
Gery Trentesaux, Skipper :
Compared with my previous First 44.7, I have been impressed during this first sailing.
- Building quality looked great
- I did like the comfort and new interior design, although I am pretty conservative!
- The cockpit layout is more efficient for the crew work
- The upwind performances are impressive in this wind range, despite non overlapping head sails.
To sum up:
She is a well born yacht! I am very confident with the performances, especially in medium and strong winds. This will give the boat better performance in offshore races than the First 44.7.
Congratulations to all the First 45 design team! You have done a great job.
LAGOON 420 SCOOPS THE MANSURA PERPETUAL CHALLENGE TROPHY
On 19th February 2008, the Mansura Perpetual Challenge Trophy was awarded to the Lagoon 420. The Mansura Trophy is the prize for the ecological design competition launched by the Royal Thames Yacht Club.
The trophy was awarded by the Duke of Edinburgh to Lagoon in recognition of it not only providing technical excellence and innovation but also as the 420 has proved itself in the commercial world – with over 70 being sold to this market over the last year.
The Lagoon 420 - launched in 2006, is equipped with electric motors as standard. Aside from reduced CO2 emissions and reduced engine maintenance, the 420 also utilises the turning motion of the propellers to recharge its batteries under sail.
Nick Griffith, Managing Director at Ancasta comments; "Ancasta is delighted that Lagoon has been recognised for its ground breaking efforts towards designing and manufacturing an ecologically sound catamaran."
A LAGOON WINS THE CATAMARAN CLASS IN THE ARC RALLY 2007
For this new edition of the ARC Rally, Lagoon was strongly represented with
14 catamarans on a total of 26. This year for the first time the complete Lagoon catamaran range was taking part in the rally.
Lagoon crews have done an amazing race placing 7 Lagoon among the 10 first catamarans to cross the line and 3 among the first 4 boats. The Lagoon 67 Perle Noire won an impressive 1st place in the catamaran class and arrived 5th over all after a 13 day crossing!!
Also to be mentioned the great performance of the L440 Annamare who arrived 4th in the catamaran class only a few hours after the L570 Dada and the 58ft Safari.
BENETEAU FIRST 45 - PARIS BOAT SHOW PREMIERE
The Beneteau First 45 is the latest model in the new First range and was officially named by a most illustrious sponsor, Madame Jacqueline Tabarly, at a ceremony attended by yacht designer Philippe Briand.
Uncompromisingly First in its philosophy, this new model will appeal to even the most demanding yachtsmen.
With its innovative hull design, optimised deck and sail plans and restrained contemporary below decks design, the First 45 makes no attempt to conceal its cruiser/racer credentials. This yacht has been constructed for fast, comfortable cruising and also has all the racing capabilities that the First range is so renowned for.
The First 45 will be on show at the ExCel London Boat Show from the 11th – 20th January Stand No. N011.
SEALINE TO LAUNCH A NEW OPEN SPORTS CRUISER AT THE 2008 COLLINS STEWART LONDON BOAT SHOW
Sealine International is to launch the new 35 Sport at the forthcoming Collins Stewart London Boat Show in January 2008.
Perfect for day and weekend cruising, the innovative 35 Sport has a complete wrap around sports windscreen with a distinctive stainless steel frame. To compliment the windscreen low level hand rails are located all around the foredeck with two hooking points adjacent to the anchor locker. These features ensure an easy passage from the cockpit to the bow.
There is a large foredeck area with optional cushions for comfortable sunbathing plus the option to add a simple bimini to keep the sun at bay in the cockpit.
The clean sophisticated lines of the totally open deck layout together with the low wrap around screen emphasise the fact that this is a boat that has been built for a true wind in the hair boating experience.
Designed in conjunction with the acclaimed SC35 Sports Convertible launched in September, the Sealine 35 Sport has the same hull which was created by the Sealine in house team in collaboration with Ocke Mannerfelt.
Below decks the accommodation is extremely light and spacious and can comfortably sleep up to six guests. There is a large saloon with a skylight which is perfect for entertaining, a very well equipped galley together with an excellent optional entertainment system. The large forward master cabin is reached by a set of double doors and the flexible second cabin has three separate berths which can be converted to form a double and single berth. Separate shower and toilet compartments add to the luxury of the bright contemporary interior.
An anchor light which simply slots into the carefully located deck fitting offers excellent visibility for night time mooring. Navigation lights are fitted into the front of the foredeck.
The new 35 Sport comes with three engine options ranging from 225-300hp. Fitted with twin D4 260hp Volvo diesel engines the 35 Sport will be available from £145,000 ex VAT.
Also on show will be the new SC35, the flagship T60 and T50 luxury motor yachts, the F42/5, F37 and F34 flybridge motor yachts and the S42, SC38 and SC29 Sports convertibles.

MARTEN YACHTS MAKE WAVES IN THE 2007 MIDDLE SEA RACE
The 28th edition of the Rolex Middle Sea Race delivered tough and testing conditions with just 12 yachts having completed the course from a total of
55 entries.
Thunderstorms, hail and wind squalls were not enough to prevent the Marten
49 ŒVineta, her owner Felix Scheder-Biechin and her young crew from enjoying the challenge of this highly rated offshore classic. Proving their staying power, Vinetas crew not only crossed the finish line of the 607nautical-mile race, but also finished second in their division and an impressive third overall in IRC. Designed by Reichel Pugh, the Marten 49 continues to validate why it sets the benchmark for the performance cruiser concept.
Born from the same family, the 66 Marten Yacht ŒRubino also finished the race in a credible sixth position.
You can currently see the Marten 49 at the Hamburg Boat Show, 21st October 4th November.

OCEANIS 37 VOTED YACHT OF THE YEAR
The Océanis 37 has been voted Yacht of the Year by Voile Magazine.
As in previous years, the Grand Pavois de La Rochelle boat show culminated in the traditional announcement by Voile Magazine of its Yacht of the Year.
Over a two-day period, 20 yachts of all types and sizes were put under the microscope by a judging panel of sailing professionals and the magazine’s editorial team. Readers were also invited to come and try the boats.
This year saw two Bénéteau boats in the running: the Océanis 43, launched last December and designed by Berret-Racoupeau with an interior by Nauta Design, and the Océanis 37, developed by Bénéteau in collaboration with Finot Conq and Associés and Nauta Design, and unveiled for the first time at the Southampton and La Rochelle Boat Shows.
The contemporary design of the boat, ergonomic deck plan, performance under sail and many innovations (patented companionway door, clever liferaft locker, innovative galley, etc.), combined with the way it fulfils the stated brief of being the ultimate family cruiser, clearly excited the judging panel, which voted it their Yacht of the Year.
The mathematical points system used to rank the boats put the Océanis 37 way ahead of its competitors.
The Voile Magazine test of the Océanis 37 is published in its November issue, and the Yacht of the Year title will be officially awarded on the Editions Larivière stand during the Paris Boat Show.

NEW - BENETEAU OCEANIS 31 PREVIEW
The result of exceptional expertise:
In December 2005, BENETEAU launched a new generation of cruising yachts with the introduction of the Océanis 50. In its wake came the 46, the 43 and the 40 ... all hugely successful, with over 800 boats sold in less than 2 years. The Océanis 37 unveiled at this Autumns boat shows is recognisably part of the same family, but has been given its own distinctive personality by designers FINOT CONQ et ASSOCIES. No surprise then that the Océanis 37 has been very warmly welcomed by boat show visitors!
It is therefore the Océanis 37 that set the style for the new Océanis 31, born out of the same collaborative partnership between Bénéteau, yacht designers FINOT and CONQ and Italian design studio NAUTA. It also builds on the success of its predecessors, the Océanis 311 and Océanis 323, which have sold over 2000 units worldwide! This new cruising yacht from BENETEAU is packed with the benefits of shared expertise and experience.
Making living space a priority:
The challenge with this design was to create the maximum living space, so on this boat you will see a galley that is probably the best in its class (two stainless steel sinks arranged lengthwise to provide the maximum work surface) and a very comfortable saloon where the emphasis is on space and light (two hull side ports as well as coachroof ports). The Océanis 31 is offered in a two-cabin and head compartment version. An Exclusive version offering even more elegance and comfort is also available.
Rare elegance in this size of boat:
With its elegant profile and sleek coachroof, the Océanis 31 builds on the innovative features introduced by its bigger brother (including the patented companionway hatch and highly-practical liferaft locker with sea hatch).
The Océanis 31 combines functionality with visual appeal and real elegance in a size of boat where design often comes a poor second to function.
The new Océanis 31 will be unveiled at the Paris, London and Düsseldorf boat shows.

MARTEN YACHTS AT THE HAMBURG BOAT SHOW
First European showing for Marten yachts at the Hamburg Boat Show
(Hamburg Boat Show October 27 to November 4 on stand no A2, 105)
A yacht that through its stunning performance and cruising comfort comes closest to being a true Cruiser-Racer in its purest form; the Marten 49, is to be shown in Europe for the first time at the Hamburg Boat Show.
The Hamburg Boat Show running from October 27 to November 4 has been chosen specifically as the ideal venue to show the Marten 49 outside of Australia for the first time – due to the popularity of the brand in the German market. Jonathan Russell, Marten Yachts Sales Manager at Ancasta, the European distributor for Marten and Europes largest boat sales network, said: "Steve Marten, the founder of Marten Yachts, has had a long relationship with the German sailing fraternity and the Hamburg Boat Show is the perfect place to show off this incredible yacht".
"There has always been a Marten stand at the show, last year there was a mosaic of one of the boats but this year for the first time ever, a Marten 49 will be exhibited on the stand."
Each Marten yacht is hand crafted and takes around 18 months to build. Designed for the owner who wishes to combine the sparkle and excitement of a performance racing yacht with the ability to make fast, comfortable passages while short handed or while cruising, the Marten 49 is a top performer at regattas and also a superb family cruising yacht.
BENETEAU 40.7 LOVE SHACK ACHIEVES RECORD RESULTS
A surgeons eye for detail pays dividends as Beneteau 40.7 Love Shack achieves record results
Orthopaedic surgeon Tim Spalding does not have much spare time to indulge in sailing, his favourite sport. When he does get onto the water, he wants a boat that will satisfy him both as a family sailor and a top racer. For this reason, he chose the Bénéteau 40.7, buying his first boat through Ancasta two years ago. In 2007, he took delivery of his new Bénéteau 40.7 Love Shack from Ancasta, and has achieved record results winning his class and the whole of Black Group at Skandia Life Cowes Week, becoming Overall IRC National Champion, and most recently winning the Little Britain Cup, racing as corporately sponsored Amey Love Shack.
"The Bénéteau 40.7 is the ideal boat for us," explains Tim. "We wanted a boat that we could sail as a family, and one that would also seamlessly become a top competitive racing yacht when we get the team on board. With its one design status we get excellent class racing, and her handicap means we are also competitive in events such as the IRC."
Tim says he used his experience gained from his first Bénéteau 40.7 to personalise the set up on Love Shack to make her as competitive as possible. Working with Ancasta, he specified his requirements for their "Grand Prix package" which included upgrades on the sheets, as well as designing the deck layout and pit area to optimise crew performance. Ancasta worked closely with him, adapting the boat to his specific requirements, as well as sourcing the equipment and fitting out the boat prior to delivery.
